A former employee is taking legal action against a property management company, alleging multiple violations of California labor laws and wrongful termination. Francisco Cruz Flores filed the complaint on April 21, 2025, in the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura, against FPI Management, Inc.
The lawsuit stems from Flores's employment as a rehab maintenance technician with FPI Management from September 1, 2021, until his termination on May 8, 2024. Flores claims that during his tenure, he was subjected to various forms of discrimination and retaliation. According to the complaint, Flores discovered mold in an apartment unit he was rehabbing and requested protective equipment from his employer. The company allegedly failed to provide this equipment, leading to health issues for Flores including respiratory problems and other symptoms which constituted a disability under California law. Despite notifying his employer about these health concerns and requesting reasonable accommodations, Flores alleges that he was terminated under false pretenses shortly after reporting these unsafe working conditions.
Flores accuses FPI Management of violating several sections of the California Government Code and Labor Code. The charges include discrimination based on age and disability, failure to prevent discrimination and retaliation, failure to provide reasonable accommodations or engage in a good faith interactive process regarding his disability, wrongful termination in violation of public policy, and failure to pay wages due upon termination. Additionally, the complaint cites unfair competition practices under the Business & Professions Code §§17200 et seq., asserting that the company's actions have resulted in illegal profits at the expense of employees like Flores.
In seeking justice through this lawsuit, Francisco Cruz Flores demands compensatory damages exceeding $35,000 for lost wages and benefits due to unlawful termination. He also seeks punitive damages for emotional distress caused by discriminatory practices. Furthermore, Flores requests statutory penalties for violations related to wage statements and rest periods as mandated by California labor laws. In addition to monetary compensation, he seeks declaratory relief affirming his rights under state law along with injunctive relief preventing future discriminatory practices by FPI Management.
Representing Francisco Cruz Flores is attorney Ramin R. Younessi from the Law Offices of Ramin R. Younessi located in Los Angeles. The case is identified as Case No. 2025 CUY WT 0425276 and will be presided over by Judge K. Biaker at the Ventura County Superior Court.
