Protecting American Consumers Together (PACT) has announced the results of a recent survey indicating that voters are concerned about the impact of lawsuit abuse on rising costs, emphasizing the need for reform discussions. PACT released this information in a press release dated March 4.
The survey found that voters overwhelmingly support reforms aimed at reducing inefficiencies within the legal system that contribute to higher costs. It revealed that 64% of respondents favor eliminating the $4,200 "hidden tax" imposed on American families due to lawsuit abuse. "President Trump has the opportunity to deliver on his campaign promise of lowering the cost of living for American families by ending lawsuit abuse in the U.S.," wrote GS Strategy Group.
Legal system abuse, also referred to as social inflation, is reportedly driving up costs for businesses and consumers across the United States. In 2023 alone, four lawsuit verdicts exceeded $1.2 billion, while another six surpassed $550 million. This contributes to excessive tort costs that reduce U.S. economic output by at least $429.35 billion annually. Munich RE reports that this "tort tax" imposes an average financial burden of more than $1,300 per person, affecting insurance premiums, business risks, and consumer prices.
According to its website, PACT is a national advocacy group focused on exposing legal system abuses and protecting consumers from excessive lawsuit costs. The organization engages in public awareness initiatives, policy campaigns, and media outreach efforts to advocate for legal reforms with the mission of creating a more balanced and transparent legal environment for American families.
