A tragic car accident has led to a significant legal battle, as a Ventura County resident seeks justice for injuries sustained due to alleged negligence. On July 3, 2024, Claudia Baeza De Chavez filed a complaint in the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura, against Alberto Mata and other unnamed defendants. The lawsuit stems from a collision that occurred on September 28, 2023.

According to the complaint filed by Quirk Law Firm, LLP, on behalf of Claudia Baeza De Chavez, the incident took place at Wooley Street near H Street in Ventura County. On that day, Baeza De Chavez was an occupant in Vehicle 1 when Mata, allegedly driving Vehicle 2 recklessly and without due care, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with her vehicle. The plaintiff asserts that Mata's actions were not only negligent but also violated several provisions of the California Vehicle Code.

The plaintiff’s attorneys argue that Mata’s failure to observe traffic laws directly caused the accident. Specifically, they cite violations of California Vehicle Code §22350 (driving at an unsafe speed), §21804(a) (failing to yield when entering or crossing a highway), and §22450(a) (failing to stop at a stop sign). These statutes are designed to prevent precisely the type of accident that occurred and protect individuals like Baeza De Chavez from harm.

Baeza De Chavez claims she suffered severe physical injuries as well as mental and emotional distress due to the crash. She alleges that these injuries have resulted in ongoing pain and suffering and may lead to permanent disability. Furthermore, she has incurred substantial medical expenses for treatment and anticipates additional costs in the future. The plaintiff also states that her ability to work has been compromised by her injuries, leading to lost earnings.

In addition to personal injury damages, Baeza De Chavez is seeking compensation for property damage. She claims that Vehicle 1 was significantly damaged in the collision and has either required extensive repairs or needs replacement. Additionally, she seeks compensation for the loss of use of her vehicle during this period.

The lawsuit demands general damages according to proof presented at trial, reimbursement for medical expenses both past and future, compensation for lost earnings due to disability caused by the accident, costs associated with repairing or replacing her vehicle, and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court.

Representing Claudia Baeza De Chavez are attorneys Trevor Quirk, Aletheia Gooden and Leonidas Nicol from Quirk Law Firm LLP. The case is being overseen by Judge Brenda L. McCormick under Case No.: 2024CUPA026641.
