Celia Soria sues Compass Group USA for negligence leading to Jaime's death

Celia Soria and Lilia Soria Trujillo, plaintiffs, have filed a lawsuit against Compass Group USA, Inc., defendant, in the Court of Appeal of the State of California, Second Appellate District. The case ID is B330221 and it was filed on April 16, 2024. The dispute revolves around the tragic death of Jaime Soria due to alleged negligence by Compass Group USA.

The case is based on an incident that occurred on September 24, 2019. Jaime Soria, who had been battling spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy since birth and was admitted to Antelope Valley Hospital with aspiration pneumonia and severe sepsis. Due to his difficulty swallowing, he was placed on an NPO (nothing by mouth) food restriction. However, a tray of food was mistakenly delivered to his room and after being told it was safe to feed him, his mother fed him the food which led to his death two days later.

The plaintiffs are represented by Kenneth J. Melrose from Law Office of Kenneth J. Melrose while the defendant is represented by M. Kevin Underhill and Gabriel S. Spooner from Shook, Hardy & Bacon. The plaintiffs allege that Compass Group USA's negligence resulted in Jaime's death and they seek $8 million in damages.
