Insurance brokerage firm Keenan & Associates is facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly exposing customer data during a cyberattack.
The plaintiffs, Rebecca Nell and Thomas Stephenson, have filed the suit on behalf of themselves and approximately 1.5 million others who were similarly affected.
The complaint alleges that Keenan & Associates failed to implement reasonable and industry-standard data security practices, allegedly leading to the data breach. The sensitive personal information of clients was allegedly compromised in the breach, including full names, dates of birth, passport numbers, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, and medical and health insurance information.
The lawsuit claims that the exposed data has been exfiltrated by cybercriminals and remains in their possession. As a result of the breach, plaintiffs allege they have suffered various damages including invasion of privacy, theft of private information, lost time and opportunity costs associated with mitigating the consequences of the breach among others.
The case was filed in Los Angeles federal court by attorney John J. Nelson,of the firm of Milberg Coleman Bryson Phillips Grossman PLLC.
