Angela Dubuc, an 82-year-old resident of Ventura County, California, has filed a lawsuit against Simi Valley Hospital and its affiliates for medical negligence. The complaint was lodged in the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura on March 18, 2025. Dubuc accuses Simi Valley Hospital, operating under Adventist Health Simi Valley, along with Victor J. Sayegh, RN, and other unnamed defendants, of causing her severe injury during what should have been routine medical care.

According to the lawsuit filed by Angela Dubuc's attorney Kevin M. Maki from Maki Law Firm APC, the incident occurred on December 26, 2023. Dubuc sought treatment at Simi Valley Hospital for a simple urinary tract infection but ended up suffering a severe leg fracture after being allegedly mishandled by Victor J. Sayegh, an employee of the hospital. The complaint details that Sayegh fell on Dubuc during her stay at the hospital, leading to a life-altering spiral fracture that required surgery involving open reduction internal fixation with rod placement.

Dubuc further claims that following this incident, all defendants involved altered and falsified hospital records to suggest that she had fractured her own leg while lying in bed. This alleged cover-up has added another layer of grievance to her case as it involves accusations of intentional deceit and breach of fiduciary duty.

The plaintiff is seeking general damages exceeding $25,000 as well as compensation for medical expenses incurred due to the injury and subsequent rehabilitation needs. She also demands punitive damages against Adventist Health and Simi Health for their alleged failure to properly train their staff and provide adequate supervision which she believes led directly to her injuries.

In addition to medical negligence and lack of informed consent claims against all defendants including Does 1-50 (unnamed parties), Dubuc is pursuing charges for breach of fiduciary duty specifically against Adventist Health and Simi Health. She argues these entities failed in their obligation to ensure competent care through proper staff training and oversight.

Furthermore, the complaint highlights corporate negligence on part of both healthcare organizations citing their failure in maintaining adequate staffing levels necessary for patient safety—a situation exacerbated by understaffing policies purportedly aimed at maximizing profits over patient welfare.

Dubuc's legal team is pushing for not only compensatory relief but also punitive measures given what they describe as willful misconduct by those responsible within these institutions—an assertion supported by allegations such as record falsification which could potentially violate Penal Code §471.5 regarding fraudulent alteration or destruction of medical records.

Represented by Attorney Kevin Maki from Westlake Village-based Maki Law Firm APC., Angela Dubuc seeks justice through this court action hoping it will hold accountable those whose actions have drastically impacted her quality-of-life post-injury while ensuring similar occurrences are prevented henceforth within these facilities.

The case is presided over under Case No.: 2025 CUM MOAR OT at Ventura County’s main courthouse where proceedings are set following a demand for jury trial initiated alongside filing dates mentioned earlier this year—March 18th being pivotal when official documentation was electronically submitted marking commencement towards seeking redressal via judicial intervention amidst complex healthcare liability issues surrounding elderly patient care standards today across Californian hospitals statewide.
