Lawsuit: Laser eye surgery botched, leaving permanent vision problems

FRESNO -- A man claims to have suffered permanent damage after laser eye surgery.

Peter D. Nunez, also known as Pedro Nunez, filed a complaint on June 11 Fresno County Superior Court against Vision Care Center, Eye-Q Vision Care and Does 1-30 for medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 12, 2016, Dr. Brian Cavallaro performed micropulse laser RBB surgery to remove a cataract in Nunez's right eye. Later that month, Nunez had the same procedure for his left eye, he says.

After the laser surgery, the plaintiff says he was seeing black spots before his left eye. Nunez allegedly repeatedly visited Vision Care Center afterwards, complaining of his decreased ability to see and specifically about the dark spot through his left eye.

Each visit, Nunez was told that they could not isolate the cause of his decreased vision, that there was nothing unusual with his condition, and the dark spot would eventually disappear, the suit says.

Nunez says his vision progressively worsened. Since August 2020, the eyesight problem is permanent, the suit says.

Nunez seeks general damages, special damages and economic damages. Nunez is represented by Alaina N. Ybarra.
