Bharath Mohan has filed a gripping lawsuit against a well-known health institution, claiming severe medical malpractice that led to life-altering injuries. On February 27, 2025, Mohan lodged his complaint in the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura, accusing Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital and associated entities and personnel of negligence. The case revolves around Mohan's treatment for gangrenous appendicitis at the hospital, which allegedly resulted in severe complications due to improper medical care.

The story begins with Bharath Mohan seeking treatment at Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital for what was diagnosed as gangrenous appendicitis. According to the complaint, Dr. Andrea Pakula recommended robotic surgery to remove Mohan's burst appendix. However, during this procedure, Dr. Pakula reportedly failed to notice the extent of infection and necrotic tissue in Mohan's pelvic area. This oversight allegedly led to a rapid spread of infection that severely affected areas such as his anus, perineum, and testicles. Despite these alarming developments, Mohan claims he was only monitored without receiving adequate treatment.

Further compounding the issue was Dr. Andrew Luckey's alleged failure to comprehend the severity of Mohan's condition or provide proper treatment. After spending approximately 23 days in the hospital without improvement, Mohan transferred himself to USC Keck Hospital where he was diagnosed with sepsis—a life-threatening condition caused by the body's response to infection. At USC Keck Hospital, doctors performed about seven surgeries on Mohan to remove necrotic tissue from his intestines and had to excise significant portions of both his large and small intestines.

Mohan’s legal team argues that Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital and its associated entities were negligent in their duty of care towards him. They claim that all defendants involved failed to exercise the necessary skill and diligence expected from healthcare providers when treating his conditions. As a result of this alleged negligence, Mohan has suffered physical disabilities and disfigurement with some injuries potentially being permanent.

In terms of relief sought from the court, Bharath Mohan is asking for noneconomic damages for past and future suffering according to proof presented at trial; special damages covering past and future medical expenses; compensation for economic losses including lost earnings; costs incurred during litigation; prejudgment interest; and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court.

Representing Bharath Mohan are attorneys Simon P. Etehad and Erik Harper from Etehad Law APC based in Beverly Hills. The case is identified under Case No.: 2025 CLI MM Osa2oF with proceedings taking place under Judge Joan Foster’s jurisdiction.
