A recent court filing alleges severe medical negligence that resulted in significant harm to a patient. The complaint, filed by Yazmin Lopez on June 4, 2024, in the Ventura Superior Court, names Joanne H. Wang and several medical institutions as defendants.
According to the lawsuit, Lopez claims that she suffered permanent injuries due to negligent medical care. The events leading up to this lawsuit began in November 2022 when Lopez received knee injections from Dr. Joanne H. Wang at Valley Orthopedics-Thousand Oaks California. These injections were intended to alleviate arthritis-related discomfort but instead led to severe complications. Lopez asserts that the negligence of Dr. Wang and other involved parties resulted in infections and further injury to her knee, necessitating multiple hospitalizations and surgeries.
The plaintiff's attorney, Steven C. Gambardella, detailed in the complaint how various defendants—including Simi Valley Hospital and Los Robles Regional Medical Center—failed to provide competent orthopedic and post-operative care. The complaint states: "Defendants held themselves out to the public and Plaintiff as possessing that degree of competence, skill, ability, and learning possessed by competent medical practitioners." However, their alleged failure led to Lopez suffering "pain, disfigurement, loss of function," and a diminished quality of life.
Lopez is seeking both economic and non-economic damages for her injuries. Specifically, she requests compensation for past and future medical expenses, home healthcare services, loss of earnings capacity, pain and suffering, and loss of enjoyment of life. Additionally, she seeks reimbursement for legal costs incurred during this litigation.
The case has been assigned Case Number 2024CUMM025600 with Judge Brenda L. McCormick presiding over the matter.
