DLA Piper is proud to announce the arrival of trademark, copyright and right of publicity lawyer Staci Jennifer Trager as a partner in the firm’s Trademark, Copyright & Media Practice. She is based in the firm’s Los Angeles office.
Trager is an established intellectual property litigator managing high-profile cases and has significant experience in courts throughout the country, particularly across California federal and state courts. A former apparel company executive, Trager works closely with fashion and consumer products companies on the business, trade secrets, and intellectual property issues they face, both in and out of the courtroom, but her top-flight practice extends to other industry sectors as well. Her extensive experience also encompasses crisis management to help clients mitigate unexpected reputational risk.
Trager’s recent, notable experience includes representing a nationwide retailer in the dismissal of a class action false advertising suit alleging greenwashing claims in the use of the terms “sustainable” and “environmentally friendly” for one of its major fashion lines; and resolving a trademark and rights of publicity case for the estate of a former rapper and entertainer that affirmed that photographers are required to obtain a license before commercially exploiting copyrighted images. She has also advised a major multinational clothing company in a seminal copyright decision; resolved copyright claims brought by a multinational music company pertaining to use of music in social media posts; and counseled a national retailer against a class action privacy lawsuit related to its timekeeping system.
