Department store chain Bloomingdale's has been accused in a class action lawsuit of allegedly violating California wage and labor laws.
The class action lawsuit alleges that the retailer shortchanged worker pay and committed other violations of state labor law. The suit was initially filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Jan. 10, but was moved to federal court on Feb. 16.
Named plaintiff Farinasp Zamani accuses Bloomingdale's and its parent company Macy's Inc. of allegedly failing to pay minimum wages and overtime for non-productive time and rest periods. They are also accused of not providing legally compliant paid rest periods or accurate wage statements, and failing to pay all wages owed to separated employees promptly.
According to the complaint, Zamani worked as a sales associate in a Bloomingdale's store in Los Angeles from 2013 to 2023.
The plaintiffs seek to expand the action to include a class of potentially hundreds or even thousands of additional plaintiffs who worked at Bloomingdale's stores in California.
The lawsuit seeks unpaid wages, penalties, equitable relief, and attorney fees. It also seeks injunctive relief, restitution and disgorgement.
The plaintiffs are represented by attorneys Omid Nosrati, Rene Maldonado and Amir Navab, of Nosrati Law, of Los Angeles.
