Dechert LLP’s top-ranked, global Privacy & Cybersecurity team has been named winner for the Americas in the International Association of Privacy Professionals’ (“IAPP”) Legal Innovation Awards 2022.
The Dechert team, led by partner Brenda R. Sharton, global Co-Chair for Privacy & Cybersecurity and a Law360 MVP of the Year for 2022, was recognized for providing cutting-edge advice to Flo Health, the world’s leading fertility tracking tool, with nearly 48 million active users.
The U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade led to widespread media attention on apps that track reproductive cycles and pregnancies, amid concern that law enforcement could subpoena user records when prosecuting under restrictive abortion laws newly adopted in dozens of U.S. states.
Advised by the Dechert team which, in addition to Sharton, included global Co-Chair Karen Neuman and partner Ben Sadun, Flo Health launched “Anonymous Mode,” a first-of-its-kind feature in the reproductive health app space, designed to further protect user privacy. Anonymous Mode allows women to use the application while protecting data from being identified with them through company records.
