Law firms used to spend considerable time on specific areas of the legal system such as research, discovery, data collection, client outreach and document drafting.

But with the introduction of the outsourcing industry that caters to legal firms' needs in taking over these projects, law firms are now able to free up time and resources at a smaller cost.

"A record retrieval service or services that we provide for various clients are really focused on the retrieval of medical and legal documentation from various constituents throughout the entire process," James Reynolds, vice president of Client Services for Peak Outsourcing, said. "Where we support the actual attainment of those files for different legal firms or organizations that support legal firms to ensure that these all necessary paperwork is in and filed, and we're orientated properly to help with various proceedings and what have you."

According to LawClerk, the classic go-tos for legal outsourcing are research, discovery and document drafting. These can be accomplished by companies or by individual freelance lawyers. In a publication by LawClerk, an overview of every kind of role available to be outsourced and the specific litigation knowledge is outlined.

Items include everything from data and record retrieval, to memo and writ drafting, petitions and research items. Like Peak Outsourcing, which focuses on record retrieval for legal and health industry documentation at law firms, other companies focus on a certain area of legal expertise or parts of the process. For example, Legal Support World is an outsourcing company that specializes in technology solutions for law firms.

The Russell Consulting Group is a business growth and marketing company that oversees these aspects for law firms. OnDeck Recruiting is a company that can be outsourced for the recruitment and hiring of employees for law firms. These are only a few examples of the hundreds of companies focusing on the outsourcing services that legal firms can use. Nearly every area of a law firm can be outsourced to another firm outside of actual legal representation. While working to grow a firm, and its business aspects, outsourcing can be helpful in cutting costs and in preserving time and resources.
