A two-time Advisen “Cyber Law Firm of the Year” winner, Lewis Brisbois' Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice has hired Jason Cherry, a former FBI Cyber Agent, to bolster its incident response practice. Mr. Cherry will join a team of over 55 attorneys, which includes several former federal and state prosecutors, as it expands its law enforcement background and incident response expertise.
Mr. Cherry served as an FBI Special Agent for 20 years, during which he investigated cybercrime, complex white collar and high-tech crime, and numerous other federal criminal violations. He also managed the FBI Technology Division, the FBI’s largest section, with over 400 employees and a $100 million budget, during which he supervised FBI cybersecurity personnel. He also served as a legal instructor for the FBI Office of General Counsel, during which he trained FBI agents on Constitutional law, data privacy, and information technology. During his career, Mr. Cherry obtained specialized training in a number of technical areas, including cloud application and system security, cyber threat mitigation, and cryptocurrency.
"We are fortunate to have Jason join our team," Practice Chair Sean B. Hoar said. "I had the privilege of working with him as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and he was the best. His investigative experience and knowledge of information technology will be a tremendous benefit for our clients. I can’t wait to work with him again!”
Practice Vice Chair Richard W. Goldberg, also a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, said, "Jason is the real deal. He had a great career as an FBI agent, and his experiential insights into cybercrime will continue to strengthen and differentiate our national data privacy and security team.”
In reflecting on his new role, Mr. Cherry said, "I am excited to join the Lewis Brisbois Data Privacy & Cybersecurity team. I worked with Sean in his role as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and I’m looking forward to working with him again and assisting victims of cybercrime."
Mr. Cherry earned his Juris Doctorate from George Mason School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Administration of Justice and the Russian language from Portland State University. He is licensed to practice in California and will be affiliated with the Lewis Brisbois Los Angeles office.
