Daniel Black Named to Variety500 List for Fifth Consecutive Year

Award

Greenberg Traurig LLP issued the following announcement on Jan. 5.

Daniel H. Black, vice chair of Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Global Entertainment & Media Practice and chair of the West Coast Entertainment & Media Practice, has been recognized for the fifth consecutive year by Variety in its Variety500, an annual list of the 500 most influential executives and creative leaders shaping the global media industry.

Variety’s profile of Black noted that he is consistently engaged as the “go-to adviser” for senior entertainment and media executives entering and exiting employment contracts and for companies turning their intellectual property into films and television series. He has recently negotiated deals for toymaker Spin Master’s “Paw Patrol” movie and for Pokémon with Netflix and Universal Music Group. Black also took on similar roles with “Halo” video game developer Bungie, as well as Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Gates Ventures on their environmental, social and governance-themed entertainment projects.

The Variety500 list, for which Variety does not accept submissions, aims to honor excellence among leaders in the entertainment business across the globe, according to the publication. The Variety editorial team updates its list annually, weighing multiple factors, such as the strength of creative and commercial successes, and traits like a willingness to take risks, to innovate, and to spur growth.

Black, a shareholder in Greenberg Traurig's Los Angeles office, has wide-ranging experience in the television, motion picture, and digital media arenas having practiced law both in major studio and law firm settings. He has served as lead counsel on transactions with major motion picture studios, television networks, and streamers, and for major internet content producing, licensing, and advertising entities. Black’s clients include production, distribution, internet, video game, and augmented reality companies, as well as advertising agencies, showrunners and producers, and on-air television and sports personalities.
