Quinn Emanuel issued the following announcement on Dec. 15.
Quinn Emanuel has elected the largest partner class in the firm’s history, Managing Partner John B. Quinn announced today. The 18 new partners come from many different litigation practice areas and 11 different offices around the world, he noted.
“Our litigation practice continues to thrive the world over, and the demand for our services continues to grow. That – and the impressive talent of the senior associates in our ranks – explains the size of this year’s partner class,” Quinn said. “This year’s class reflects our ability to attract, train and retain top-tier young legal talent. I congratulate my new partners.”
The elections took place at Quinn Emanuel’s annual partnership meeting in Miami on December 11 and take effect on January 1, 2022. The newly elected partners are as follows:
Blair Adams - Blair is in the firm’s New York office. He joined the firm in 2013. He does structured finance and other commercial litigation, including cases involving collateralized debt obligations, residential mortgage backed securities, credit default swaps, over-the-counter trading markets, and project finance. He has tried several cases in the areas of structured finance, including a bench trial seeking reformation of an RMBS indenture and a three week arbitration concerning allegations of fraud in the sale of CDO notes. He has also represented clients in antitrust and appellate matters. Prior to joining Quinn Emanuel, he graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School.
Jack Baumann - Jack Baumann is in the firm’s Los Angeles office. He joined the firm in 2013 after clerking for the Honorable Jerome Farris on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He does class and representative action litigation as well as general business litigation. He has tried several cases including a multi-million dollar dispute between the owners of the Four Seasons Los Angeles and the Four Seasons management company. Prior to joining the firm, he from the University of Southern California law school where he was an editor of the law review.
Kevin Chu - Kevin is in the firm’s Washington DC office. He joined the firm in 2013. He does intellectual property litigation, including investigations before the International Trade Commission. Kevin received dual degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Applied Science Chemical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. Prior to joining the firm, Kevin learned the intricacies of patent prosecution as an examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Alicia Cobb - Alicia is the co-head of the firm’s Seattle office. She joined the firm in 2009. Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, with experience in antitrust, class action, False Claims Act, structured finance, white collar crime, and bankruptcy litigation. Alicia has litigated cases in both federal and state courts in New York, Washington, and Washington, D.C., representing both plaintiffs and defendants in many industries, including retail, pharmaceutical, and monoline insurance. Prior to joining the firm, Alicia graduated from Lewis & Clark Law School and was a clerk for the Hon. Edward R. Korman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Stacylyn Doore - Stacylyn is in the firm’s Boston Office. She divides her practice between complex commercial litigation, where she represents both plaintiffs and defendants in breach of contract, business torts, fraud, securities, trade secrets, and employment matters, and securities enforcement, where she focuses on insider trading, market manipulation, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigations. Prior to joining the firm, Stacylyn obtained extensive jury trial and appellate experience while serving as an Assistant District Attorney for Middlesex County and as an Assistant Attorney General in the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office.
Sandra Haberny - Sandy is in the firm’s Los Angeles office. She has an extensive patent litigation and trade secret practice specializing in the life sciences. Sandy has litigated, advised clients, and tried cases in a range of complex technologies including molecular diagnostics in the cancer and prenatal fields, DNA sequencing, oligonucleotide synthesis, CRISPR, monoclonal antibody-based therapies for cancer, CAR-T and other cell-based therapies for cancer, RNA interference, small molecule compounds and drugs, liquefied natural gas-based energy sources, and many others. Prior to joining the firm, Sandy received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Molecular Pharmacology from the Sackler Institute of the New York University School of Medicine and her J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Jan-Philip (JP) Kernisan - JP divides his time between the firm’s New York and Washington D.C. offices. He practices in the areas of employment law, white collar defense and corporate investigations and commercial litigation. JP represents companies and executives facing corporate crises involving difficult legal and regulatory challenges, with particular experience advising companies related to allegations of corruption, discrimination and harassment and/or executive misconduct. JP is also the 2-time Chair of the New York City Bar’s Associate Leadership Institute. Prior to joining the firm, JP graduated from New York University law school.
Leo Kitchen - Leo is in the firm’s London office. He does complex commercial and financial litigation, with a particular focus on competition-related collective proceedings and follow-on damages claims, as well as complex civil fraud and disputes arising under the ISDA Master Agreement. He represents clients in disputes in the financial and payment services, transport and aerospace and the energy sectors, among others. Leo also represents clients in insurance-related matters. Leo has been recognized by Legal 500 UK as a Rising Star for Banking Litigation: Investment & Retail for three consecutive years. Prior to joining the firm, Leo graduated from BPP Law School in London.
Daniel Koffmann - Dan is in the firm’s New York office and represents companies, boards of directors, and senior executives in sensitive matters involving criminal investigations and indictments, congressional inquiries, corporate crises, internal investigations, and other disputes with federal and state prosecutors and enforcement agencies. He advises clients on white collar issues, including alleged corruption, securities fraud and insider trading, tax evasion, the False Claims Act, money laundering, sanctions evasion, and civil and criminal forfeiture proceedings. His work spans matters in the United States, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. He is particularly active in Latin America and has represented a number of individuals and companies involved in Brazil’s Lava Jato investigation and the Panama Papers. Prior to joining the firm, Dan graduated law school from New York University.
Joachim Lehnhardt - Joachim is in the firm's Hamburg office. He is a German qualified attorney (Rechtsanwalt) and a member of the Brussels bar. Joachim has extensive trial and appellate experience and has represented numerous international clients in connection with the private enforcement of damages claims as well as in complex commercial and capital markets litigation including in model case proceedings (Kapitalanlegermusterverfahren). Joachim also has particular expertise in all areas of data protection, including clients' representation before regulatory bodies. He is an expert in internal investigation and discovery proceedings and the corresponding privacy issues. Prior to joining the firm, Joachim was the Assistant at the Chair of Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoeren, Institute for Information, Telecommunications and Media Law in Münster at the University of Münster.
Alexander Leventhal - Alexander is in the firm’s Paris office. Alexander does international commercial and investment arbitration matters across multiple business sectors, including hospitality, telecommunications, entertainment, financial, and others. He has deep expertise in international energy matters where he represents both upstream and downstream clients in all manner of disputes. Prior to joining the firm, Alexander obtained masters’ degrees from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris as well as a degree from the law school at the University of Pennsylvania.
Lucas Loviscek - Lucas is in the firm’s Washington D.C. office. He does high stake disputes and arbitrations administered under major rules and institutions such as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) and UNCITRAL as well as complex litigation matters, particularly in Latin America. Prior to joining the firm, Lucas worked as a senior counsel in one of the leading law firms in Argentina where he represented multinational companies and financial entities in corporate matters and in local and international litigation before key international forums.
Catherine Mattes - Catherine is in the firm’s New York office. She does complex chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology litigation matters. She has extensive experience in all stages of patent litigation, including pre-suit investigation, fact and expert discovery, trial, post-trial, and appeals. Catherine also counsels clients regarding patent portfolio evaluation, including conducting diligences regarding the patentability of inventions, the validity of patents and the freedom to operate new technologies and represents innovative brand name pharmaceutical companies in complex Hatch-Waxman litigations against multiple defendants. Prior to joining the firm, performed graduate-level research and earned a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University in 2006 and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.
John McKee - John’s is in the firm’s New York office. He does high-stakes intellectual property disputes including patent litigation matters involving technologies such as the Android operating system, DOCSIS, automotive wireless hotspots, anti-malware software, LEDs, magnetic backup tapes, cellular baseband processors, 3G/4G cellular standards, and cloud infrastructure. In 2014 and 2019, Mr. McKee was selected as a New York “rising star” by Super Lawyers magazine. In 2019, he was named to Patexia’s list of top 100 attorneys representing petitioners at the PTAB. Prior to joining the firm, John obtained a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from Boston College Law School.
Adam McWilliams - Adam is in the firm’s London office. Adam does international arbitration, with deep experience working with infrastructure, construction, energy and mining clients around the world. He has been engaged as counsel in cases involving various governing laws and administered by all the major institutions, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). Prior to joining the firm, Adam earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from Queensland University of Technology and a Master of Law degree from Cambridge University.
Karabeth Ovenden - Karabeth is in the firm’s London office. She does over-the-counter derivative products risk management and related disputes, insolvency matters, and complex commercial and tax disputes. Karabeth’s clients include high net worth individuals and multi- national corporates. She has experience in both litigation and arbitration, often involving jurisdictional and cross-border elements. Prior to joining the firm, Karabeth graduated from Columbia Law School and earned a Masters at Oxford, with a particular focus on international tax disputes.
Michelle Schmit - Michelle is in the firm’s Chicago office. She joined the firm in 2013. Michelle does climate change, environmental, trade secret, patent, and antitrust cases among other complex litigation fields. She has extensive trial experience in environmental, trade secret, patent, and antitrust cases. Prior to joining the firm, Michelle graduated cum laude from Cornell Law School.
Dr. Simon Vorburger - Simon is in the firm’s Zurich office. Simon does international commercial and investment treaty arbitration. He also represents parties in domestic and international litigation and advises clients in cross-border multi-jurisdictional disputes and pre- litigation strategy. He has extensive experience with energy and infrastructure projects, construction and engineering, manufacturing, disputes involving the financial industry, and long- term delivery and sales contracts. He also has extensive experience in insolvency-related issues, in particular, the interplay between international disputes and cross-border insolvency proceedings. Before joining the firm, Simon earned a law degree as well as a PhD from the University of Zurich and an LLM from New York University.
