Sanford (Sandy) C. Presant, a shareholder and co-chair of the Global Real Estate Funds Practice of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, moderated the Bisnow Digital Summit session titled “Successful Opportunity Zones in California” on April 15. Greenberg Traurig sponsored the summit.
The panel discussed case studies of opportunity zones advancing the community. It also explored the potential benefits of qualified opportunity zone investment for communities in California and how local and small businesses can benefit when located in these qualified opportunity zones.
Presant focuses his practice on providing fund and joint venture best-practice business and tax structuring advice to sponsors of the leading real estate private equity funds, qualified opportunity zone (QOZ) funds, REITs, and their local partners and investors in the United States and internationally.
Presant has more than 30 years of experience as a tax and business lawyer for major funds and real estate companies. He has structured and negotiated the tax and business aspects for leading industry QOZ funds, over 100 real estate funds (including their internal general partner structuring and executive compensation) in the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and Asia; and more than 500 joint ventures (partnerships and LLCs), including QOZ subsidiary JVs (QOZBs), as both a corporate and tax attorney.
Eight of the firm’s attorneys from the Real Estate and Tax practices, who work around the U.S. with opportunity zones and related real estate funds, participated in the conference.
