Holland & Knight issued the following announcement on Jan. 5.

Mark Powell has joined Holland & Knight as a partner in the firm's Private Wealth Services Group. Although resident in the firm's Los Angeles office, Mr. Powell also will continue to work with high-net-worth clients in Orange County. Most recently, he was a partner at Snell & Wilmer in its Orange County office.

Mr. Powell focuses his planning practice on three areas: estate and gift tax planning, with a strong emphasis on charitable planning and family philanthropy; family governance and succession planning for clients wanting to provide benefits over multiple generations; and trust and probate administration. He also mediates trust and estate disputes. Mr. Powell is a California Bar Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law and a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

"Mark brings nearly 25 years of trusts and estates experience and clients with significant assets to the firm. He will help us grow our estate planning practice in California and is an excellent complement to our national Private Wealth Services Dispute Resolution team," said Vivian Thoreen, leader of that team and executive partner of Holland & Knight's Los Angeles office. "His significant client relationships in Orange County, which is home to many wealthy Californians, are of particular value."

"I am excited to join one of the most highly regarded private wealth services groups in the country. My practice fits well with its sophisticated platform," said Mr. Powell. "I look forward to assisting in business development for the Southern California market and contributing to the national Private Wealth Services practice as well."

Mr. Powell received a J.D. degree from Mercer University School of Law and an A.B.J. degree from the University of Georgia. In 2019, he completed the Harvard Law School Executive Education program's Negotiation Master Class.
