An automobile collision has sparked a legal battle in Ventura County, California. On June 5, 2024, Jacoby & Meyers Attorneys LLP filed a complaint on behalf of Joanne Huguley against Jack Michael Butterworth and other defendants in the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura.
The case stems from an incident that occurred on August 14, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of SR-118 freeway offramp for exit 19A and Princeton Avenue in Moorpark. According to the complaint, Huguley was driving eastbound on SR-118 and making a northbound left turn onto Princeton Avenue when her vehicle was struck by a southbound Ford F-150 driven by Jack Michael Butterworth. The plaintiff alleges that Butterworth was driving at an unsafe speed and failed to stop at a red light, leading to the collision. Huguley claims she suffered severe bodily injuries as a result of the crash.
The complaint further states that the Ford F-150 was owned by Jon Lance Butterworth and/or Wendy Buttworth, who are also named as defendants for negligently entrusting their vehicle to Jack Michael Butterworth. The plaintiff asserts that Jack Michael Butterworth’s actions violated several sections of the California Vehicle Code, including §22350 (driving at an unsafe speed), §21453(a) (failing to stop at a red light), and §23103 (reckless driving).
Huguley is seeking general damages for pain and suffering, special damages for economic losses such as medical expenses and loss of earnings, costs of suit and interest, and any other relief deemed just by the court. The plaintiff argues that she acted with due caution during the incident and did not contribute to or cause the collision.
Representing Huguley is attorney Jose Alfonso Ramirez-Gomez from Jacoby & Meyers Attorneys LLP. The case has been assigned Case No.: 2024CUPA025617 in the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura.
