In the Court of Appeal of the State of California, Second Appellate District, Division Seven, Jennifer L. Shannon-Yeganhe filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Case No. B317654) on May 8, 2024. The case centers around allegations that improper medical care during surgery led to an anaphylactic shock and subsequent brain injury.

Representing herself, Shannon-Yeganhe alleged that the hospital's negligence caused her significant cognitive impairments post-surgery. Her claims were initially dismissed by a summary judgment in favor of Cedars-Sinai and two doctors involved, but upon appeal, only the judgments for the doctors were upheld while Cedars-Sinai's was reversed. Expert witnesses Dr. Richard Kroop and Dr. Alan Waxman testified on her behalf regarding her condition and potential causes.

The trial court granted Cedars-Sinai’s motion for nonsuit due to insufficient evidence linking the hospital's actions directly to Shannon-Yeganhe’s injuries. The court also denied her motion to reopen the case to call a neurologist as an expert witness because she had not designated this expert properly before trial.

Shannon-Yeganhe seeks damages for her cognitive impairments resulting from alleged medical negligence during surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
