Dr. Farhad Nowzari, a board-certified urologist who had been a member of the Medical Staff at Torrance Memorial Medical Center since 2002, had his privileges restricted after three patients under his care died within a five-month period in 2017. Represented by Joel Bruce Douglas and Edward Idell from Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O'Keefe & Nichols, Nowzari challenged this decision through an arbitrator and then the hospital's review board but was unsuccessful.
Nowzari petitioned for a writ of mandate to overturn the review board's decision; however, his petition was denied. Furthermore, attorney fees were awarded as a sanction for what was deemed unfounded and unreasonable claims made by Nowzari. Kenneth R. Pedroza and Cassidy C.
