A class action lawsuit accuses the sellers of Glad brand trash bags of allegedly misleading consumers about how recyclable their plastic bag products actually are.
The lawsuit was filed March 15 in San Diego federal court.
Named plaintiff Craig Woolard, of San Diego County, alleges that he relied on the companies' claims that their Glad Recycling Trash Bags were suitable for recycling when making his purchase.
However, he asserts that he and others who purchased the bags did not realize the bags were actually not accepted for recycling by most municipalities operating recycling pickup, along with regular trash, and that the bags would typically end up in landfills.
The plaintiffs seek to expand the action to include tens of thousands of other additional plaintiffs throughout California and the U.S.
The lawsuit accuses the defendants, the Glad Products Company and the Clorox Company, of violations of California consumer protection and false advertising laws.
The plaintiffs seek unspecified damages, including restitution, plus attorney fees.
They are represented by attorney Manfred P. Muecke, of Manfred APC, of San Diego.
