Retail giant Kohl's is facing a class action lawsuit over allegations of misleading consumers about the thread count of its 100% cotton sheets.
The lawsuit claims that Kohl's advertised the sheets as having a thread count exceeding 600, which according to the plaintiffs, is physically impossible.
The case was initially filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Feb. 6, but was later moved to federal court in L.A. on March 12.
The lawsuit was filed by named plaintiff Jon Christian Stedman Witt, of San Diego.
The plaintiffs seek to expand the action to include potentially thousands of other California residents who purchased bedsheets from Kohl's in the past four years.
The lawsuit accuses Kohl's of violating California consumer protection and false advertising laws by allegedly selling bedsheets with elevated thread counts, making consumers they were getting better bedsheets, when they allegedly did not.
They are seeking compensatory, statutory and punitive damages, plus attorney fees.
Plaintiffs are represented by attorneys Mark A. Redmond, of San Diego, and Lawrence J. Salisbury, of San Diego.
