Thompson Coburn Los Angeles partner Rich Reinis has been appointed to the California Fast Food Council (FFC) by Gov. Gavin Newsom. The council is a new statutory state agency formed in accordance with Assembly Bill 1228, enacted in September 2023. The FFC will review hourly minimum wages for fast food restaurant employees and make recommendations as to wage increases as well as set health, safety, and employment standards. The standards must be “adequate to ensure and maintain the health, safety, and welfare of, and to supply the necessary cost of proper living, to fast food restaurant workers and to ensure and effect interagency coordination and prompt agency responses regarding issues affecting” fast food restaurant workers.
Rich was appointed for a four-year term and was one of seven appointees named to the newly established council in Newsom’s March 1 announcement. Prior to joining Thompson Coburn as a partner, Rich brought Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to Southern California, serving a newly formed company as CEO and General Counsel for six years. During that time, the company became the largest Krispy Kreme franchisee.
