A class action lawsuit has accused retail pharmacy giant Walgreens of allegedly improperly recording inbound phone calls from customers in California using the retailer's customer service phone line.

The lawsuit was initially filed in January in San Diego County Superior Court, but was removed to federal court in San Diego on March 1.

The lawsuit accuses Walgreens of allegedly violating California's Invasion of Privacy Act by recording calls made to their toll-free customer service line without informing callers that their conversations might be recorded.

The lawsuit was filed by named plaintiff, Ekaterina Gliadkovsky, identified only as a resident of California. The lawsuit seeks to expand the action to include a class of additional plaintiffs, which could include every California resident who has called Walgreens customer service line since January 2022.

The lawsuit seeks statutory damages of $5,000 per violation, which would be multiplied across all members of the potential plaintiffs' class.

Plaintiffs are represented in the action by attorney Zev B. Zysman, of Encino.
