Rideshare company HopSkipDrive is facing a class action lawsuit over its handling of a data breach in 2023.
The lawsuit, filed by plaintiff Tara McIntosh on behalf of approximately 155,394 others, accuses the company of failing to properly secure and safeguard sensitive customer information, including names, addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers, Social Security numbers, and medical information. The suit alleges that the company did not notify customers of the breach for months after it occurred.
The complaint states that HopSkipDrive derives substantial economic benefit from collecting this personal information and had a duty to protect it from unauthorized access. It also accuses the company of failing to provide details about the root cause of the data breach or what remedial measures were taken to prevent future breaches.
The case was filed Feb. 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California by attorney William B. Federman, of Federman & Sherwood, of Oklahoma City.
