Shook Partner Colman McCarthy was recently interviewed by Cybersecurity Law Report to discuss “Ten Cybersecurity Resolutions for 2024.” Throughout the article, McCarthy along with other cybersecurity professionals, provide insight about where companies should direct their attention and resources when setting cybersecurity and risk mitigation priorities for 2024.
As a Chambers ranked litigator in Privacy & Data Security, McCarthy advises clients across the country on their obligations under both domestic and international privacy and data security laws. “Software vulnerability management is a critical component of any cybersecurity program,” said McCarthy. “While zero-day exploits get a lot of headlines (with good reason), most vulnerability exploits are done using bugs that are already known.”
McCarthy also regularly directs cybersecurity incident-response matters including business-email compromise and employee theft of information. “As recent high-profile incidents have shown us, human error is still a huge hole in any cybersecurity program – no matter how sophisticated,” McCarthy examined. “Training employees is critical.”
Outside of his client practice, McCarthy is the author of a bi-weekly newsletter tracking state privacy legislation.
