Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP announces Seven Shook Automotive Litigators to Speak at ABA Motor Vehicle Product Liability Conference

Seven Shook attorneys will present at the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (ABA TIPS) 2023 Motor Vehicle Product Liability Litigation Conference, April 19-21 at the Omni Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Montelucia in Scottsdale, Arizona. Their presentations are as follows:

April 19
California Consumer Litigation Medley - 2:30–4:30 p.m. Shook Partner Andrew Chang will moderate, and Partner Amy Maclear will be a panelist for this pre-conference workshop session covering key developments and issues related to the skyrocketing number of California automotive consumer-fraud and breach-of-warranty cases. 

April 20 
Welcome and Introduction - 7:50–8:00 a.m. Shook Partner and Event Co-Chair Amir Nassihi will speak to open the conference. Nassihi is the national co-chair of Shook’s Class Action Practice Group and co-leads Shook’s Automotive Industry Group. 

Economic Damages in Automotive Class Actions - 1:40–2:30 p.m. Shook Practice Managing Partner of the Business Litigation and Public Policy Practice Groups, Mark Campbell, will be a panelist for this session. Campbell will discuss analytical methods used by experts in economic-loss class actions matters, and the strengths and limitations of these methods in light of recent high-profile court decisions.

Practical Considerations in Class Actions Settlements and Settlement Administration - 2:30–3:20 p.m.
As a panelist for this session, Shook Partner Michael Gallub will address many key issues to consider when settling class actions and aggregated and pattern litigation and will provide practical tips to accomplishing settlement goals.

April 21
Inside View: Legal and Ethical Considerations for Corporate Counsel - 8:50–9:50 a.m. Shook Associate Melina Manetti will be a moderator for this panel of six corporate counsel from Volkswagen, Toyota, Nissan American Honda, Mercedes-Benz USA, and Hyundai Motor America. Panelists will address practical, ethical and compliance issues faced by corporate counsel when retaining and managing outside counsel and handling complex litigation.

A View From the Bench: Trial Tips and Best Practices in Complex Automotive Litigation - 9:50–10:50 a.m. Shook Associate Nalani Crisologo will be a moderator for this panel of seven federal and state court judges discussing hearing and trial tips from the bench, expectations on civility, best practices in complex litigation, and what the post-pandemic trial landscape looks like from the trial court’s perspective.
