Nikki E. Dobay, shareholder in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Tax Practice, will speak at the 2023 National Multistate Tax Symposium presented by Deloitte Tax LLP in collaboration with the Tax Section of the Florida Bar. The 19th annual tax forum offers businesses and tax executives the opportunity to hear from and interact with leading practitioners, industry peers, and colleagues on highly valued multistate tax functions attuned to everchanging business needs.
Dobay will speak Feb. 10 on a panel titled “The ‘other taxes’: A closer look at state gross receipts taxes, select local taxes, and escheat.” The panelists will discuss the mechanics of how some gross receipts taxes and select other local business taxes work, including related tax compliance and controversy issues from a practical standpoint, and potential planning considerations for those either “doing business” in these jurisdictions or just wondering if they are.
Dobay, based in the firm’s Sacramento office, is nationally known for her deep experience and understanding of state tax policy and the legislative process. She also advises her clients on sophisticated multistate tax issues as well as the consequences and planning opportunities related to corporate mergers and acquisitions transactions and oversees state and local tax (SALT) controversy matters, ranging from audits to appellate litigation. Dobay regularly writes and speaks on issues related to SALT and other areas of tax law.
