Woman sues Toyota for allegedly not covering cost of new battery

LOS ANGELES - A Woodland Hills woman is suing the Toyota Motor Corporation for allegedly not honoring the warranty on her car battery.

Jessica Foust filed the lawsuit July 2 in Los Angeles federal court against the corporation, along with its subsidiaries — Toyota Motor North America, Inc., and Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc.

According to the complaint, Foust purchased a preowned 2015 Lexus CT200H from a Valencia dealership in February of 2017 that was still under the California Emissions Warranty.

In April of this year, Foust took her vehicle to the Lexus of Woodland Hills because the check engine/check hybrid system light was illuminated.

The dealership performed a diagnostic check and informed Foust that the battery needed to be replaced, the suit says.

Toyota refused to cover the new battery and Foust had hers replaced in June for a “goodwill discount” of $1,445.14.

Foust is now seeking reimbursement through her lawsuit and is represented by Ari Y. Basser of Pomerantz LLP.
