A lawsuit against Los Angeles County, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Sheriff Alex Villanueva alleging wrongful death, assault and battery was removed to federal court on April 8.

According to the complaint originally filed on March 24 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court and removed to the Central California U.S. District Court, plaintiff Donna Louise Williams and Fred Williams Jr. are successors to the estate of Fred Williams III.

The decedent was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy on Oct. 16, 2020, while he was fleeing law enforcement in Compton.

The lawsuit says that the decedent was wrongfully shot in the back while he was fleeing and was left for some time without emergency life saving measures.

The defendants are accused of wrongful death, battery, assault, negligence, Bane Act violation, negligent training, retention and supervision and Fourth Amendment violation.

The decedent's family is represented by the Law Offices of Brian D. Witzer Inc. of Los Angeles.
