LOS ANGELES - Unlawful detention, unreasonable search and seizure and other charges were filed against Los Angeles County by the estate of a Palmdale man allegedly killed in a police shooting, according to documents filed on March 10 in Los Angeles federal court.

According to the lawsuit, plaintiff Shellondra Thomas of Rosamond was in her car with the decedent, Terron Boone, with her minor child in the backseat in January 2020.

Thomas and Boone noticed two unmarked vehicles following them; after pulling into a parking lot, Thomas says that law enforcement officers exited the unmarked cars with guns drawn.

The suit says that there was no reason for the officers to believe that the plaintiff Thomas and the minor child had broken the law, but fired shots at the vehicle, injuring Thomas and killing Boone.

The plaintiff accuses law enforcement of ignoring her shouts that her baby was in the vehicle and ignoring Boone's critical state of needing medical attention due to the gunshots.

Thomas and three children are suing the county for: unreasonable search and seizure, unlawful detention and arrest; unreasonable search and seizure, excessive force; unreasonable search and seizure, denial of medical care; Fourteenth Amendment violation, substantive due process; municipal liability, unconstitutional custom or policy; municipal liability, ratification; municipal liability, failure to train; false arrest/false imprisonment; battery; negligence, wrongful death; negligent infliction of emotional distress; and violation of California Civil Code.

The plaintiff demands a jury trial and is represented by the Law Offices of Dale K. Galipo.
